Sistar19 ‘Gone Not Around Any Longer’ Music Video Review
I have been looking forward to Sistar19’s comeback for a while and I must say that I am slightly impressed. The song and video is sensually seductive and sexy. The use of slow and erotic choreography, a deep and smooth instrumental, contrasting settings and effective clothing helps bring about this concept. I love this slow song and theme- it is different from their previous single ‘Ma Boy’ showing their versatility as a sub-unit.
On the other hand, my disappointment lies with many Bora fans as she rarely got any lines excluding the rap segment. It almost seems that the song was sung entirely by Hyorin and just featured Bora. Many people protest saying that Bora’s role is as a rapper and not a vocalist but do they not remember that she got several singing lines in their previous single? Bora is a rapper and a vocalist and I believed that some of Hyorin’s lines should have been shared with her. In the video and in love performances all Bora seemed to be just a backup dancer for Hyorin.
Personally, I am not bashing Hyorin and her vocal talent by suggesting giving Bora more lines. Hyorin is one of my favorite female vocalists in the industry and there are no discrepancies in saying that she is truly talented. She sings a five octave line after the break of the song that sends chills down my spine and she does so almost flawlessly even during live performances.
May I make mention of the dance break near the middle of the song. Their dancing (especially Bora’s) was breath-taking. It was fluid, beautiful and executed quite well.
As far as the settings for the video goes I really liked them and thought the contrast between the dark rooms and lighter rooms suited the song well. There were flashbacks seen when the members reminisce of old memories with their respective partners and their current lonely times. This correlated with the contrast of settings well.
Although I am slightly disappointed because of the line distribution I confess that this song and video are already one of my favorites for the year. Are there any groups or even sub-units that can top Sistar19’s comeback? We will just have to wait and see.
