Girl’s Day has made a comeback with a repackaged album called ‘Female President’.
The song seemed to be well liked among fans however the music video has received a lot of negative comments and attention for its supposed vulgarity. Upon viewing this music video many K-netizens have taken upon themselves to rename the girl group ‘Slut’s Day’ which of course angers me.
The music video did contain mature content, however, this does not justify calling these girls ‘sluts’. Many girl groups have taken on much sexier concepts (an appropriate example is Rania and their song Dr. Feel Good) and even American female soloists (Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Katy Perry) have paraded around practically half naked, sing about sex and dance in the most provocative ways.
Going back on topic, I personally love this song. It is catchy and fun. It is already stuck in my head! There was a strong presence of heavy guitar and drums in the instrumental. It also reminds me of 2YOON’s ‘24/7’ for some reason. It also reminded me of American football and cheerleaders. I cannot explain why- I guess I am just that weird. The girls sounded amazing and I especially loved Yura’s rap portions.
And while on the topic of Yura, can I take the time to mention how gorgeous she looked in this video? Even I was captivated by her beauty.
I also saw that Hyeri took a haircut; unfortunately, it did not work for me. I found it made her look a bit awkward. However, ever since the dating scandal with her and Tony Ahn (who is old enough to be her father may I add) broke out everything regarding her seems awkward. But let us not dwell on that topic at the moment.
I loved the set of the video. It was colorful, the lighting was used effectively and we even see the theme of ‘Female President’ where the members seem to be giving speeches at a podium.
Unfortunately, this is the point where the review becomes bittersweet.
The choreography seen within the video…I liked to an extent, however, there are certain points that made me feel quite uncomfortable.
I loved the ‘Nine Tail’ dance where the girls shake and let loose.
The part of the choreography which made me feel uncomfortable is where the girls bend over and where the cameras focused on regions that I know I have being a female but regions I do not necessarily want to see.
The close up between the ‘near-kiss’ between Hyeri and Minah also made me feel uncomfortable and not because it depicted a romantic gesture between two girls but just because it was Hyeri that participated in this gesture. As I said previously, she makes me feel rather uncomfortable.
Concerning the current scandal with Yura’s racy outfit in the music video, it was revealed that what everyone thought to be a short dress was actually a full body one piece or tights which were nude-colored. I do not really care for the outfit or the scandal because Yura rocked it either way (Yes I am being biased).
I really loved this song and I liked the concept. The video was colorful, the choreography was fun and sexy and the girls looked amazing. This song did not ‘WOW’ me as much as ‘Expectation’ did but it still left an impression. However, I do miss the days of their cuter concepts, such as their song ‘Hug Me Once’ (my favorite from them) and I do wish that they will branch out into that field once more in the near future.
