Best of 2013: Hello Project

2013 was more or less a decent year for Hello Project. There were a few graduations, departures and bad selling singles but there were also record breaking sales, a new group formation and new additions to the organization.

Morning Musume

Help Me (2nd favorite)

I absolutely loved this single! I was totally impressed by the music video and the dance formations. I was also glad that they made Sakura the center. She has an amazing voice! I also loved the B-sides of the single which were ‘Watashi no Dekkai Hana’ by Reina, Ayumi and Haruna and ‘Nani wa Tomo Are’ by Kanon, Masaki, Haruka and Erina. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst outfits from Morning Musume.

Brainstorming / Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai (3rd favorite)

Brainstorming was an exceptional graduation single for Reina. However, I was not equally impressed with Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai. The music video was a bit plain and the choreography did not blow me away like Brainstorming’s choreography did. The B-sides for the single also interested me especially Reina’s graduation single, ‘Rock no Teigi’. The song was a great introduction for her rock band career.

Wagamama Kinomama Ai no Joke / Ai no Gundan (1st favorite)

This is the best single from Morning Musume in 2013! This was a highly-anticipated single as everyone wondered what the group would be like without Reina and I must say I was highly impressed by the great innovation and high powered choreography.

Berryz Kobo

Asian Celebration (2nd favorite)

This song was very addictive. I found myself singing it constantly. I loved the song and it reminded me of ‘Dakishimete Dakishimete’. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the outfits.

Golden Chinatown/ Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi (3rd favorite)

Golden Chinatown was the worst song by the group this year. The outfit, song and choreography were unappealing. Sayonara Usotsuki no Watashi was a decent song but it was not my favorite from the group this year.

Motto Zutto Issho ni Itakatta/ Rock Erotic (1st favorite)

This was the best single from the group this year. Their improvement and dedication were seen through this single. Rock Erotic seemed to be a favorite among Hello Project fans.

This was a great year for C-ute. They achieved great success and record-breaking sales. I would be lying if I said I was not proud of this group and their achievements this year. They are definitely the Queens of J-POP!

Kono Machi (4th favorite)

I am not usually a ballad person but I really loved this song. I wish I could have said the same for the music video. It was pretty low budget with the use of green screens and low quality backgrounds. The outfits were not their best either.

Crazy Kanzen na Otona (3rd favorite)

The music video, choreography and outfit were sexy. Tsunku was right when he said that this comeback would have blown our minds! I expected nothing less from Hello Project’s dance group!

Kanashiki Amefuri/ Adam to Eve no Dilemma (2nd favorite)

This single made it extremely hard to choose a favorite C-ute single for the year. I was impressed by both songs. Although I was amazed by the flawless music video for Kanashiki Amefuri the video for Adam to Eve no Dilemma disappointed me. On the other hand, I loved the concepts for each song.

Tokai no Hitorigurashi/ Aitte Motto Zanshin (1st favorite)

This was my favorite single by the group. Everything was perfect- the dances, the songs and the outfits. I was even impressed by the live performances of the songs. The music video for Tokai no Hitorigurashi was creative and spontaneous while the video for Aitte Motto Zanshin was sexy and dark.

Tabidachi na Haru ga Kita (3rd favorite)

I was impressed by Kana’s improvement when I heard the song and heard the video. This made me like Kana and the group even more.

Atarashii Watashi Ni Nare/ Yattaruchan (2nd favorite)

smileageyattaruchan (1)

This is one of my favorite singles from S/mileage of all time. I was glad that so much promotion was done for this group. This promotion helped to shape not only the group but also Kana and Akari.

Ee Ka?!/ Ii Yatsu (1st favorite)

‘Ee Ka?!’ was funky and fun. The choreography and rapping verses blended well. Ii Yatsu was also a great song. The group has really improved. I wonder what type of single they will release next.

Juice= Juice

Juice=Juice has done remarkably well for a group that has just debuted this year. I have full faith in them in the upcoming year.

Watashi ga in Mae ni Dakishimenkya ne (3rd favorite)

When the video for this song was released my jaw dropped to the ground. I could not believe that this was a rookie group! It is evident that these girls have worked hard during their trainee days. Their dance and singing skills were outstanding. I was beyond impressed and was immediately interested in them.

Samidare Bijo ga Samidareru (4th favorite)

By the release of the video for the second indie single I was convinced that Tsunku made the best choice in selecting these six girls to be in the group. Their voices blended well and they were all hard working. This indie single had unique choreography and a party sound.

Ten Made Nobore (5th favorite)

It was sad to see Aina leave the group but the group never lost its spark. This song was inspirational and it’s a pity we would never get to see the Juice=Juice music video version.

Romance no Tochuu/ Watashi ga in Mae ni Dakishimenkya ne (Memorial Edit)/ Samidare Bijo ga Samidareru (Memorial Edit) (2nd favorite)

The group continued to impress me with their debut single. I still find myself singing Romance no Tochuu. They also vocally improved with their debut. This group shows a lot of promise. Unfortunately, the music videos for Watashi ga in Mae ni Dakishimenkya ne (Memorial Edit) and Samidare Bijo ga Samidareru (Memorial Edit) looked rushed and low quality.

Ijiwaru Shinai de Dakishimete yo/Hajimete wo Keikenchuu (1st favorite)

This is my favorite song by the group so far. I especially loved the choreography for Hajimete wo Keikenchuu. On the flip side, I did not particularly like Ayumi being a replacement for Karin in the dance portion for Ijiwaru Shinai de Dakishimete yo.
