Why I Don’t Speak of AKB48

Some of you may be wondering why as a big JPOP enthusiast I do not have many posts about one of Japan’s biggest girl groups, AKB48. There are two reasons for this:

Firstly, I am not up to date with their music. I like few of their older songs such as, “River”, “Aitakatta” and “Majijo Teppen Blues”, but I have not listened to their newer singles. Lately, I have been so heavily invested in KPOP that I barely listen to newer Japanese songs. I am pretty sure that my ‘Top 100 JPOP songs’ list will have a lot of older songs. I actively follow Hello Project and AAA, but only because I am completely obsessed with these groups.

Secondly, I do not know much about the members of the group. There are so many! The members that I really liked have already graduated (Shinoda Mariko and Maeda Atsuko). Takahashi Minami is about to graduate. However, I am a fan of Kojima Haruna, Watanabe Mayu and Matsui Jurina.

Do not get me wrong, I really want to know more about the members and their music, but it is just a lot and I do not know where to start. If someone makes a guide to getting to know AKB48, I will gladly read it!

  1. I respect your views. We can’t watch/listen to everything. I love AKB48 and think that they are a lot of fun. You seem to like their “dance music” best, which would be closest to an American R & B or a Kpop of sound.

I prefer some of their more offbeat and funny music videos.

Please see my posts, I have often written about AKB48 and other Jpop groups.
