Summary: KBS has decided to take on a new style of drama by combining dramatic and romantic elements of a typical Korean drama and the hectic, but hilarious lifestyle of a variety show producer. Tak Ye Jin (Gong Hyo Jin) is the lead producer of the ever-popular “Music Bank”. Her best friend, Ra Jun Mo (Cha Tae Hyun), is the lead producer of “2 Days, 1 Night”. Baek Seung Chan (Kim Soo Hyun) is a new intern at the company who faced complications from his first day. Cindy (IU), a famous singer, faces complication of her own with her company and her love life. This drama shows us the daily issues that arise in the lives of these four characters.

I loved this drama. It is a unique concept, mixing the drama and variety genres. There were the typical drama elements such as romance, friendship and self-identity concerns, but they were all told from a different perspective.

Many of us enjoy variety shows such as “Running Man”, “Real Men”, “2 Days 1 Night” and “Infinity Challenge”, but has anyone taken the time to think about what goes on behind the scenes of these shows? What are the people who put together these amazing shows like? This show gave me a brief insight into the lives and roles of variety producers. Actors portray the “producers” in this drama, but in a special episode we hear the testimonies of actual producers at KBS. This was another aspect of the show that fascinated me.

While watching this drama I realized how hectic the life of a producer is. They have a lot of work to do and strict deadlines. Their lives require stress management, problem solving, innovation and determination. They also have to deal with issues in their personal lives. I have gained a great deal of gratitude and respect for these producers.

I was captured from the first episode of this drama. The first few episodes had a pseudo documentary style. The new interns at KBS were being filmed in different departments. Main character, Baek Seung Chan, was one of these interns. He was assigned to the variety department. This was one of the first incidences of comedy in the show. Baek Seung Chan may be good-looking and smart, but he lacked basic social skills and had an introverted personality. This is completely opposite to the dynamic and spontaneous nature of the variety department.

It was a pity that the format of the drama changed. Many viewers complained that the initial format of the drama was uninteresting. I totally disagree with this! It was different from the usual clichéd drama, but it seems that this is what the viewers wanted. They still maintained the documentary concept, but less focus was placed on it. The show lost some of its distinct and creative appeal.

KBS picked some of the best actors for this show. There are big names like Gong Hyo Jin, IU and Kim Soo Hyun. All these actors are very good at what they do and did well in portraying their characters in the drama.

The love square between the main characters had me in a confused mess. I did not know whom I wanted to ship. My shipper valve was broken. I wanted Seung Chan to realize Cindy’s affection for him, but I also adored the relationship between Seung Chan and Ye Jin. On the other hand, I could not completely disregard the years of friendship between Ye Jin and Jun Mo. Yeah, my ship did not know which direction to sail in, but I was satisfied with the final result. Watch the drama if you want to know more about that.

While it was comical to see the mishaps caused by Seung Chan, they also gave us a preview of the ugly side of the entertainment industry. We got to see the wrath of the Communications Council and the tiring and restricted life of idol. It makes us aware that idols are humans, and they suffer and sacrifice for their dreams and fans.

I was so sad to see this drama come to an end. This is one time I wish a drama was not so short! This year seems to be the year of good dramas and this definitely one of them. I recommend this drama. It is a bit different from the usual type of drama, but if different is your style then this drama is for you!
