This is pretty much old news, but the pain still lives on in my heart.
Last month, Cube Entertainment announced the disbandment of 4minute. I felt like the news came out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. I was aware that their contracts were about to expire, but I was confident that all the members would have renewed their contracts.
There was no major controversy surrounding the group, and their recent releases have seen much success and popularity. In my mind, there was no reason for them not to renew their contracts. I was positive that I would have one of my favourite girl groups for a few more years.
However, when I read the news of their disbandment, I was clearly proven wrong. I was heartbroken and devastated. I was in shock for a while. I really did not see this coming. I was not psychologically prepared for this disbandment.
The world of KPOP seems to be taking several hits this year. Several groups have lost members including B2ST, 2NE1 (cries), Rania, and Miss A. There are even some other groups such as LedT (formerly Led Apple), Global Icon, and The Ark that have disbanded as well.
Let’s not forget about the constant scandals that occurred this year, most notably Park Yoochun’s ongoing sexual assault and prostitution case. With so many bad things occurring, it makes me feel like it is 2014 all over again!
Although 4minute appeared to be happy and successful, it is now clear that the members wanted to walk different paths. This has taught me a valuable lesson about assuming things.
I wish the girls all the best in their future endeavours. Hyuna is the only member that renewed her contract with the company, so I look forward to a solo comeback from her soon. I am curious to see the new paths the other members embark on. There are some rumours floating about stating that Sohyun and Jihyun will embark on acting careers, while Jiyoon is currently working on a solo release. I am not too sure what Gayoon’s plan is, but I know that I will support her no matter what. Even though the group is no longer active, I will continue to support all of them.
Thank you, 4minute, for the amazing seven years you have given to us.
