ºC-ute is set to disband on June 12, 2017. All five girls will graduate Hello! Project and go their separate ways. As June quickly approaches, we look back on ºC-ute’s past and accomplishments. We remember the times we celebrated with them, cried with them and supported them.
Last time, leader Yajima Maimi was in the spotlight. This time, we will be featuring Nakajima Saki.
Name: Nakajima Saki
Birth Date: February 5, 1994
Birth Place: Saitama, Japan
In 2002, Nakajima Saki auditioned for Hello! Project Kids singing Morning Musume’s “Dekkai Uchuu ni Ai ga Aru”. Saki was selected to join Hello! Project Kids and joined indies group, ºC-ute, in 2006. Saki made her official debut with the group in 2007 with “Sakura Chirari”.

My interest in Saki started when I saw their video for “La La La Shiawase no Uta”. She has one solo line in that song. It was the best and cutest solo line in the history of ºC-ute. Her higher pitched voice stuck out among the rest. It set the tone for the rest of the song. I would have been happy if Saki sang the whole song by herself.
Unfortunately, my interest in her started to waver. She was not vocally strong as the other members, especially when the group was reduced to five members. She was near the bottom of my ranking for a number of years.
Saki and Mai got pushed down the vocal hierarchy. They only received one solo line while Airi, Chisato and Maimi sang most of the song. As a result, we saw less of them in music videos and concert clips. As the saying goes, “out of sight, out of mind”. The less I saw Saki, the more my interest dwindled.
My interest in Saki was renewed during the “Kiss Me Aishiteru” era. I do not know what happened but Saki’s sex appeal skyrocketed in that video. I believe that Saki has mastered the mature and sexy concept. I could not take my eyes off of her during music videos like “Kiss Me Aishiteru”, “Crazy Kanzen na Otona”, “Adam to Eve no Dilemma” and “Mugen Climax”. Let’s not forget that live pole dancing performance for “Crazy Kanzen na Otona”. I find it captivating that Saki, who has a cute voice, baby face and loveable demeanour could transform into a mature and alluring young woman with a few movements and change of expression. She shot up my list to become my 3rd favourite member.
I will miss Saki. I will mostly miss her dance skill and commitment. Although she was often pushed to the background of the group, she still gave her best on stage and recordings. She is one of Hello Project’s best dancers. Saki stated that she plans to become a travel program host. It is a bit different from the idol life but I am sure she will ace it.
Good luck, Saki. I will always support you!
