Woman Crush Wednesdays: Amuro Namie

Name: Amuro Namie (安室奈美恵)

Birth Date: September 20, 1977

Age: 40

Origin: Okinawa, Japan

Entertainment Company: Avex Trax

Namie debuted when she was just 14 years old. Since then, she has released many singles, albums and collaborated with a diversity of producers and singers within and outside of the Japanese Entertainment industry. She also has a wealth of experience in acting, modelling and fashion. Her long and successful career has rewarded her with the title of “Queen of J-POP”.

I cannot remember my first Namie Amuro song. I just know that I have been her fan for quite some time. She just suddenly appeared in my life and since then I have loved her and her music.

I truly believe that Namie is the “Queen of J-POP”. Throughout her career, she successfully experimented with different sounds, concepts and styles. She released many English songs and albums as well, including one my favourite albums of all time, “Genic”.

Namie’s talent and influence are recognized not only by fans but by fellow artists as well. I cannot even quantify how many songs she is featured in! A couple of my favourites include “I’m Not Yours” by  Jolin Tsai and “Revolution” by Crystal Kay.

On September 20th, Namie announced that she will be officially retiring from the entertainment industry on September 16, 2018. She will have a final album and concert tour. While I am saddened by this announcement, I almost expected it to happen. She has been active for more than 25 years. She had a successful career and now it is time to move onto another chapter. I will miss her and cherish this last year with her.

Thank you, Namie for all your hard work and great music!
