In this post, I will be talking about the idols of the ’96-line! The featured Korean and Japanese idols will be turning 22 years old (international age) this year!
Do not forget to check out the featured idols in past age-line posts!
I.M (Monsta X): I remember watching “No Mercy” and being completely upset that I.M made it into the final group while #Gun was eliminated. Now, I love him, and he is one of my favourite members of the group. His voice though, have you heard it? He is well-known for his deep voice, which is useful for his powerful raps. Once you listen to him, you would be stunned that he is not over 25 years old!
Fujii Karen (Happiness): She is the main vocalist of her group. In past posts, I have mentioned that Karen has a very mature voice. Honestly, it shocked me that she was the younger sibling of the Fujii sisters (Shuuka is older). Her voice is much more developed than Shuuka’s.
Joy (Red Velvet): On the other hand, Joy has a very distinctive voice which has a higher tone than her fellow members. She is one of the members of Red Velvet whose voice I can easily single out (the other member being Wendy). I remember thinking that she was very young until Yeri joined the group.
BI (iKON): How is BI not the oldest member of iKON? He is younger and much more talented than me. He can sing, dance, rap, make music, write songs, the list goes on. He can do anything. I am in shocked that he is the same age as idols like Hagiwara Mai (ex-C-ute), Seunghee (Oh My Girl), and Sana (Twice), who look way too young to be born in 1996.
Kodama Haruka (HKT48): Haruppi’s short hair makes her seem that she is still in her teenage years. Her name and her hair remind me of Morning Musume’s former member Kudo Haruka. Kudo is still a teenager, which sometimes makes me think that Haruppi is one as well. She is currently on hiatus for medical reasons. I hope she gets better soon!
Jennie (BLACKPINK): No lie, Jennie looks like the oldest member of BLACKPINK with her intense glare and charismatic persona. Could you believe that she is the same age as Morning Musume ‘18’s Fukumura Mizuki and Happiness’ chibi YURINO? Sometimes, Jennie breaks out of her usual badass persona during variety shows and acts very cute.
Fukumura Mizuki (Morning Musume ’18): Speaking of Mizuki, she is one of the oldest members in Hello Project. Hello Project members are getting younger and younger (e.g. Kiyono Momohime). Mizuki’s age and seniority stick out like a sore thumb within Hello Project. However, as I noted above, in the broader idol world she seems more innocent and younger than her fellow 96-ers.
Chungha: This girl can dance. She got me from the moment she freestyled during the Produce 101 Season 1 ranking auditions. Have you seen her performance from last year’s MAMA? She even stunned the much older members of EXO! Other than tearing up the stage, Chungha exudes maturity through her appearance and actions. You can see that she is a blooming young adult!
Ten (NCT): He is another talented dancer in the KPOP world. I was also amazed by his singing skills through his solo releases and his duet with Taeyong for “Baby Don’t Stop.” When Ten’s on stage, my brain (and my heart) forgets that he is two years younger than me.
Youngjae (GOT7): I will never forget seeing Youngjae in person when he performed in Canada. I asked myself, “How is this guy younger than me?” He was so tall and good-looking!
Chanhyuk (Akdong Musician): Last on the list is AKMU’s Chanhyuk. He is one of my favourite guys in the KPOP industry. He is talented. He can sing, rap, and create music. All of AKMU’s greatest hits were created by him! His skills and funny personality makes him very attractive to me. I usually have to remind myself that he is younger than me, but two years younger is not bad, is it?
