My Drama Update (October 2018)

Take My Brother Away (2018)

Country: China
Starring: Joseph Zheng & Sun Qian
Completed Episodes: 9
Rating: 3/5

Description: Shi Miao and Shi Fen have the perfect sibling rivalry. They seem to fight for everything and all the time. This is a feel-good show that shows the tribulations and love between brother and sister.

I cannot take this drama seriously. A lot of the plot and script makes no sense, but that is what I love about this drama. I guess I cannot be serious and critique the quality of every drama I watch. This show is hilarious, and I love the relationship between Shi Miao and Shi Fen. The show sometimes seems unrealistic, but it is an excellent show to watch after a stressful day.

Also, I have a small crush on Joseph Zheng.

Meteor Garden (2018)

Country: China
Starring: Shen Yue & Dylan Wang
Completed Episodes: 8
Rating: 3/5

Description: This is the Chinese version of Boys Over Flowers and Hana Yori Dango. This drama follows the crazy and romantic adventures of Shan Cai, Dao Ming Si, Hua Le Zi and the rest of the members of the F4.

This show is difficult for me to watch. I had high expectations since Boys Over Flowers was one of my first (and favourite) dramas. This show portrayed the story from a different perspective. The characters are in university, and they put a lot of emphasis on the F4’s poker playing skills. I am not sure if I like this version of the show, but I have only watched eight out of fifty episodes. I do not know why there is a need for so many episodes. It seems like I would be watching this show for a long time.

Fall in Love with Me (2014)

Country: Taiwan
Starring: Tia Li & Aaron Yan
Completed Episodes: 2
Rating: N/A

Description: Lu Tian Xing is an advertising star who is known for his self-absorbed nature. He crosses paths with Tao Le Si, a young business owner who inherited her late brother’s advertising business. Unfortunately, her company is on the verge of being sold off but Lu Tian Xing, disguised as Xiao Lu swoops in to try to the save the day.

I only started this show because I love Tia Li since her “Hayate the Combat Butler” days. Additionally, I was a bit interested in Aaron because of his music. I have only seen two episodes, so I am not sure how I feel about the show as yet.

YG Future Strategy Office (2018)

Country: South Korea
Starring: Seungri
Completed Episodes: 6
Rating: 4/5

Description: This is a sitcom featuring BIGBANG’s Seungri, who joins YG Entertainment’s Future Strategy Office as a special staff member.

This is another show that I cannot take seriously. It is hilarious though. If you have not been following YG Entertainment for the past few years, many of the jokes may go over your head. This is a show for YG and KPOP fans. My favourite parts of the show are the guest cameos (which are sometimes a surprise for the cast as well). I would not reveal who guest starred on the series so far, but I do recommend watching it on Netflix if you want to find out!

Reply 1994 (2013)

Country: South Korea
Starring: Go Ara & Jung Woo
Completed Episodes: 2
Rating: N/A

Description: Na Jung is the daughter of a married couple who owns a boarding house. She has an unhealthy obsession with a player on her school’s basketball team and lives with several other guys in the boarding house. The show goes back and forth between 1994 and 2013 where the characters reminisce about their times in the boarding house.

I felt obligated to watch this since it is the sequel to Reply 1997. However, I feel like it is the same plot as the prequel, just during a different time period and with different characters. I feel no connection with the characters. It also took me a while to realize that even though the actors for the parents are the same in both shows, they are playing different roles. The show is confusing and tedious to watch.
